Thanks to the single currency, the exchanges can be made freely between countries and at low cost. Until now, indeed, the conversion of currencies could be complicated and it was expensive. It has been reckoned that a French man who would have done the tour of Europe with 1000 FF at first but who had changed his money at each border would have returned to France with 500 FF! From now on, no more expenses of exchange, and for companies, no more bad surprises due to the unpredictable variations of currencies: everything is in Euros... | ||||||||||||

Prices
displaying everywhere in the same currency, it will be
from now on easy to compare the rates of any European
country to the other one. An investigation from the newspaper " the Expansion " shows strong valuable disparities between the European capitals: Vienna being the most expensive (followed by Paris), and Madrid the cheapest. We can hope that eventually, the prices harmonize at an average level. In the meantime, it is disadvised to go and buy jeans in Lisbon! |

least half a century, the dollar is the most usually
currency used in the world and the reference point for
all the others, which gives to the United States an
inconstestable even excessive power of influence . Even
the Europeans buy their petroleum in dollars... With the euro, monnétaire, Europe, strong of its 304 million inhabitants, that is more than the 281 million Americans should henceforth counterbalance this dominion, and this especially since in term of foreign business , " Euroland " passes in the first world rank, with its 20 billion euros of excesses a year. |

Everything
leads us to believe that the three member countries of
the Union reluctant to the Euro (United Kingdom, Denmark
and Sweden) will not delay joining us. Later, Norway,
Switzerland, former Eastern countries and the trio
Turquie-Chypre-Malte, all more or less candidates for the
Union, could indeed come to strengthen Euroland in the
next years or decades. The Euro is on the march! Articles widely inspired by "Sciences et Vie Junior" of December, 2001 |
